Fun Video from archives -
Khakee one of the favorites of this blogger. This scene is definition of "Drama". You can see all emotions on Bachchan's face from will to fight, to loser, to dejection, to pain. 2 people became actors in this scene - Tushar and Akshay and then there is Ansari! it is just beautiful.

  • Finding Fanny - 0 star.
Actors - Naseeruddin Shah, Arjun Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Dimple Kapadia (-2 to all)
Director - Homi Adajania. (-2 points)

Genre - Trying to fool you to get an award.
There are movies that are award types and then there are others who are pretenders. This one is sad. To see all great actors perform like jokers. I want to see one movie that is not trying to win an award but still shows goan or parsi culture. Why do they have to be shown like caricatures? If you are in goa or parsi do you have to be a little off? Anyway this movie has nothing from start to finish. Yes Naseer is annoying as are others. It is not even funny, in fact someone dies and drops off from the stupid car and others did not notice. May be I was the one who died watching this.

  • Kill Dil - 4 Star
Actors: Ranveer Singh (+2), Govinda, Ali Zafar, Parineeti Chopra (+1)
Director: Shaad Ali. (+2)

Genre - Thriller.
Shaad Ali is a director who can claim to make a movie about North India. The guy did not waste his time growing up ....he observed. Kill Dil is not really north Indian movie but Shaad Ali always does justice to a movie for sure. Ranveer Singh is fast turning into a fun actor, the guy has energy. He compensates a lot for everything with his willingness to breath life into anything he does. Movie is about 2 street kids who grow up to become thugs and work for the Don Govinda. Then there is Parineeti who is always a treat to watch. Govinda is the only let down. Entire movie he is over acting and trying to look menacing ... but then... that's Govinda. That is not a role you give to him. He is good but only a one trick pony. The movie was a 3.5 but then the music catapults the movie to the rarified territory of 4 stars. The music and songs are just awesome and they sound better in the movie. Go watch it and listen to the songs.

  • Zid - 3.0 Stars
Actors:  Karanvir Sharma, Mannara, Shraddha Das
Director - Vivek Agnihotri.

Genre - Sex Thriller.
The movie is not confused it is focused on oozing sexiness from scene one to last. How much they succeed? it depends on what you like. It is a thriller which has a few twists. Guy comes to town and falls in love with this sexy girl next door.. or does he? Maybe she falls in love... hold on the guy has a past. A past girl friend ... shows up. Jealousy.... and a murder. Or is it a murder? looks like an accident. Probably I made it sound more interesting than it is, don't come yelling at me if you did not find any of the above. But go watch it.

  • Happy Ending - 2.5 Stars
Actors:  Saif Ali Khan(-2), Ileana, Kalki Koechlin, Govinda (+1), Ranvir Shorey
Director: Krishna D.K., Raj Nidimoru

Genre - Saif Romance.
Once upon a time there was Saif and he was this young girlish dude who was always confused ..... about what is love. He was a player but happy go lucky. Then there was a Saif who did one film called Omkara. Then there was a Saif who was this old bearded trying to look like his young self dude... who was confused ... about what is love. He was a player...... etc etc. Please Saif please stop doing these movies.
Well the movie itself is not that bad. In fact Govinda is pretty good in this one. Back to his comic element some scenes are hilarious especially where he is making his 6 pack. Illeana is cute as always. Its bout a 2 writers who meet and meet again and go on a road trip... you get it.

  • Haider - 4.5 Stars
Actors:  Shahid Kapoor (+2), Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu, Kay Kay Menon (+2), Irrfan khan(+1)
Director: Vishal Bhardwaj(+3)

Genre - Drama
Haider is an adaptation of Hamlet. Vishal Bhardwaj's 3rd Shakespearean installment. I never read Shakespear but Vishal has made me believe Shakespear is awesome or at least Vishal is awesome for sure. This is what love of movies is. The guy makes what he wants and he cares what he makes. Bhardwaj also makes a movie and Farah Khan also makes a movie. huh. It is set in backdrop of Kashmir with Son (Shahid Kapur) looking for his lost Dad who is whisked away by Indian Army. Telling tale of the dark days on militancy in J&K. This is not a political tale it is a story about relations, back stabbing, love, and revenge. Everything is in it. Beautifully done. No item songs, no physics defying fights none of the main stream stuff but the movie is still pretty main stream. That is Vishal Bhardwaj for you. Kay Kay Menon, Irrfan and Tabu are awesome along with Shahid. But then let's not forget it is all Bhardwaj who makes them do what they do.

  • Happy New Year - 2.5 Stars
Actors:  Shahrukh Khan (-2), Deepika Padukone (-2), Abhishek Bachchan
Director: Farah Khan (-10)

Genre - Dumb.
Once upon a time there was ShahRukh Khan who was heart throb of girls. He would twist his eyebrows and concort his lips and that was definition of Love. Then he got old, and he had to abandon that Lover SRK. He got lost, and found spoof comedy with dumb directors. Happy New Year. Only reason this movie gets 2.5 stars is because it is good for kids, if kids are under 10 they love the slapstick and loud comedy. The same old story of revenge of Dad's murder is re-packaged in a dumb package. Thank You.

  • The Shaukeens - 1.5 Stars
Actors:  Akshay Kumar, Lisa Haydon, Anupam Kher, Annu Kapoor, Piyush Mishra
Director: Abhishek Sharma

Genre - Tharki.
I don't know why but this genre is brought up every few years in hindi films. Handling is always insensitive. The old people with grandkids want to run after young girls and they do it hiding from there family. Akshay Kumar is playing himself and how he comes in their life and saves them from their own tharak. Some of the scenes with Akshay making fun of movie star life style are funny. But in entirety I don't see any of my audience who can complete this one.

  • Sonali Cable - 3.5 Stars
Actors:  Rhea Chakraborty(+1), Ali Fazal, Raghav Juyal, Anupam Kher(+1), Smita Jaykar
Director: Charudutt Acharya (+1)

Genre - Thriller / Drama
Small time cable company owner (Rhea) takes on the big corporation. She is in love with US returned childhood sweetheart who is rich politician's son. The story of this girl and how she deals with her love of the cable company and her BF love and in between. Pretty well done. The girl is cute and does an ok job.

  • Ungli - 3.5 Stars
Actors:  Emraan Hashmi, Sanjay Dutt, Kangna Ranaut, Neha Dhupia, Angad Bedi
Director: Renzil DSilva (+1)

Genre - Thriller
This is a Imraan Hashmi movie and this blogger is soft on him. He always stars in a movie that is different. So at least they are all watchable. This one is no different. Though it goes on a predictable path but it is good to watch. The actors don't pop out with there skills and do an ok job. 4 kids decide to take on themselves to put the corruption thing to rest and show the finger to the society and administration. How and why Hashmi joins them... where does Sanjay Dutt fit in? ....  for answers watch the movie.

  • Tevar - 3.5 Stars
Actors: Arjun Kapoor (-2), Sonakshi Sinha, Manoj Bajpayee (+1)
Director: Amit Ravindernath Sharma

Genre - Throwback
Were you alive when a movie called Tezaab was made? Yea... this movie takes from that era. Same stuff not even packaged new. But then it does do justice to that genre of cinema. Road side romeo doing some good fist fights and singing songs randomly with the girl who pops up for songs. Sonakshi who is hailed as a good actor who comes in roles that don't need any acting skills does have a scene or 2. Generally she needs to make her trademark yesteryear hindi movie faces. Which is basically making your eyes wide and contort some facial expressions - it passes off as cute (look up Kareena, Karishma, Raveena, or any south indian movie female acting in a song). The least skilled Kapoor Mr Arjun Kapoor sleeps through this one too. But anyway if you liked Tezaab you can check this out and think about good ol movies in that era. The villain in Manoj Bajpai is good he brings some real freshness to his oft repeated role.

  • Action Jackson - 0 Star.
Actors: Ajay Devgan (-5), Sonakshi Sinha (-2), Yami Gautam, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Manasvi Mamgai, Anandaraj
Director: Prabhu Deva (-10)

 Genre - Dumb / Idiotic
There is this trend of remaking south indian hit movies. This blogger has always said if you want to watch mindless action revenge just watch the south indian movies don't remake them. This is a movie which does not even get the simple formula (made zillion times in south) .. right. There has to be a superhero who will do physics defying stunts beat up people all over the place. Uniform clad villain ki sena! He will also romance the girl which is basically insulting the girl more than romancing. Girl pops in for a few songs mostly for pelvic movements and carry the damsel in distress expression all along. villain is straight from a comic book and will act like a cartoon too. A comic side kick who will never make a joke which will make you laugh if you are more than 10 year old. He will be hero's best friend and may die. This is basic formula of all 80s hindi films and all popular south indian films for last 100 years. But to get it right also needs some skill. Devgan sucks at this... makes faces and mouths lines which may originally make sense in South Indian language but makes no sense in Hindi. Just by doing this movie - Devgan has forfeited right to any positive award on this blog for 2015.

Thanks
